It is extremely difficult to write down a dance. These entries are from our dance sylabus - it is far better to see the dances in person, or at least on video tape. In addition, regional differences in the dances may result in a different description from others that may be found on the 'net and elsewhere.
With the above in mind, we hope you find these how-to's helpful!
General information:
Hand and Arm Holds
At least four types of hand and arm holds are used in Greek folk dances:
W (Elbows bent): V (Arms straight): ![]()

Conventions Used in Describing the Dances:
LOD: Line of direction; most Greek dances move to the right, that is, counterclockwise.
L: Left foot or leg, weight on the left, etc.
R: Right foot or leg, weight on the right, etc.
Q: A quick step, weight change, movement, etc. (usually on one beat)
S: A slow step, weight change, movement, etc. (usually taking two beats)
