Greek Dance Instruction in Carmel, California
The Greek Dancers of the Monterey Peninsula is a folk dance group that specializes in authentic ethnic dances of Greece and its neighboring countries. The group meets each Tuesday from September through June, then recesses for a two month summer break. Dances are held in Room 6, Sunset Center, San Carlos and Ninth Streets, Carmel, California.
Students come from all over the Monterey Peninsula, from the Salinas Valley, and from the Santa Cruz area. Beginners meet from 6:30 to 7:30 PM; intermediate and advanced students dance from 7:30 to 8:45 PM. Tuition is $4 per week or $15 per month. No partners are needed and students of all ages are welcome.
New beginning classes start each September, usually on the second Tuesday after Labor Day, and again in January after New Years Day. Teaching starts out at a very basic level at this time, and progresses slowly to meet the needs of first-time students. Dances increase in difficulty as students gain in skill and experience.
New dancers always are welcome and may register in class. After the first few months of each semester, classes combine instruction in new dances with the review of more familiar dances and general dancing to class favorites.
Also mixed in are laughter and friendly conversation, since the group is a warm and social one whose members sincerely care about each other. Birthdays are celebrated and holidays and other special events are regularly observed with parties.
